School is back in session — backpacks are full, pencils are sharp, and if you’re like us, you’ve already heard your first classroom cough or seen a runny nose or two.
As much as we love the fresh start of a new school year, we know it also brings something else: the back-to-school bugs.
At Emediate Cure Quick Care, we’re not just healthcare providers — we’re parents and grandparents with kids and grandkids in these same classrooms, eating in the same cafeterias, and high-fiving their friends in the same hallways. When germs spread at school, we see it at home just like you do.
We started our clinics right here in our own community because we wanted families to have fast, reliable care without the stress of long ER waits. Ten years later, we’re still family-owned, and we’re proud to care for our neighbors — especially during seasons like this when everyone seems to be passing the same cold around.
What’s Going Around Right Now
Here’s what we’re already seeing in our clinics this school year:
1. Strep Throat
This bacterial infection can spread fast in a classroom.
Symptoms: sudden sore throat, fever, pain when swallowing, sometimes white spots on the tonsils.
Why it matters: Untreated strep can lead to complications, so it’s worth a quick test (which we can do in minutes).
2. Common Cold
It may not be serious, but it sure can take the wind out of your sails — and your child’s.
Symptoms: runny or stuffy nose, cough, sneezing, mild sore throat.
Tip: Remind kids to wash their hands and keep their hands away from their face — easier said than done when research shows kids can touch their faces up to 16 times an hour!
3. Pink Eye (Conjunctivitis)
Highly contagious and a quick ticket home from school.
Symptoms: red, itchy eyes, discharge, crusty lashes in the morning.
Why it matters: Some types of pink eye need prescription drops to clear up and prevent spread to the rest of the family.
4. Hand-Foot-and-Mouth Disease
More common in younger kids, but it can sweep through classrooms quickly.
Symptoms: fever, sore throat, small blisters or spots on hands, feet, and inside the mouth.
Tip: Keep kids home until blisters are dried to help protect others.
5. Early Flu Cases
Yes, flu season can start before Halloween.
Symptoms: fever, chills, muscle aches, cough, fatigue.
Why it matters: The flu can spread up to 6 feet through coughs and sneezes, and quick treatment can help shorten symptoms.
Keeping the Bugs Away
We can’t prevent every sniffle or sneeze, but we can lower the risk:
- Wash hands for 20 seconds (it can reduce school absences by up to 21%)
- Avoid sharing drinks or snacks
- Stay home with a fever or vomiting
- Keep vaccinations up-to-date
- Make sure kids are getting enough rest and eating well
Why Families Choose Us
We opened our doors right here in the community because we wanted families to have accessible urgent care for kids and adults without long ER waits or corporate red tape. As parents and grandparents, we’ll always treat your family like our own — with compassion, honesty, and care you can trust.
Walk in anytime — no appointment needed. With same day PCR testing, we’ll help your child feel better and get back to school (and back to play) as quickly as possible.
No appointments, no corporate red tape — just neighbors helping neighbors.
